When I first started learning Japanese for the first four years I bought seventeen textbooks. I listened to podcasts. I took one on one lessons every week. Every day, I studied for about two hours in total. I studied for about a thousand hours. Every day, I was learning new grammar, new words, new phrases. It was a really stimulating time. It was a very exciting time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u305d\u3053\u3067 \u3088\u3046\u3084\u304f \u65e5\u672c \u306b \u884c\u304f \u3053\u3068 \u306b \u306a\u308a \u307e\u3057 \u305f\u3002 \u65e5\u672c \u306b 1 \u30ab\u6708 \u30db\u30fc\u30e0\u30b9\u30c6\u30a4\u3059\u308b \u3053\u3068 \u306b \u306a\u3063 \u3066 \u3068\u3066\u3082 \u30ef\u30af\u30ef\u30af \u3057 \u307e\u3057 \u305f\u3002 \u50d5 \u304c \u65e5\u672c \u306b \u884c\u3063 \u3066 \u30db\u30b9\u30c8 \u30de\u30b6\u30fc \u3068 \u76f4\u9762 \u3057 \u305f\u3089 \u3069\u3046 \u306a\u3063 \u305f \u3093 \u3067\u3057\u3087 \u3046 \u304b\u3002&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and then I had a chance to go to Japan. I was going to do a home stay in Japan for one month. I was super excited. And what do you think happened when I met my host mother?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u30af\u30cb\u30fc\u30c1\u30fc\u30ef\u30fc\u3002\u30a2\u30fc\u30b5\u30fc \u3067\u3059\u3002 \u3088\u308d\u3057\u304f \u304a\u9858\u3044 \u3057 \u307e\u3059\u3002 \u305d\u308c \u3057\u304b \u8a71\u3055 \u306a\u304b\u3063 \u305f \u3067\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s the only thing that I could say<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u3048\uff1f\u306a\u305c \u3067\u3057\u3087 \u3046 \u304b\u3002 \u30a2\u30fc\u30b5\u30fc \u305d\u3093\u306a\u306b \u52c9\u5f37 \u3057 \u305f \u306e\u306b \u306a\u305c \u8a71\u305b \u306a\u304b\u3063 \u305f \u306e \u3067\u3057\u3087 \u3046 \u304b\u3002&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;But Arthur you studied for four years. Why couldn&#8217;t you speak that much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u306a\u305c \u304b \u3068 \u3044\u3046 \u3068 \u5b9f\u306f \u50d5 \u304c \u65e5\u672c\u8a9e \u3092 \u52c9\u5f37 \u3057 \u3066 \u3082 \u8a71\u305b \u306a\u3044 \u7406\u7531 \u306f \u591a\u304f \u306e \u65e5\u672c\u4eba \u304c \u82f1\u8a9e \u3092 \u5b66\u3093 \u3067 \u3082 \u8a71\u305b \u306a\u3044 \u7406\u7531 \u3068 \u540c\u3058 \u3067\u3057 \u305f\u3002&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Actually the reason why I learn Japanese but couldn&#8217;t speak is the same reason why Japanese people learn English but they can&#8217;t speak. Let&#8217;s look at the reason together.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u3053\u308c \u304c \u7406\u7531 \u3067\u3059\u3002 \u82f1\u8a9e \u306e \u77e5\u8b58 \u306f \u3042\u308b \u3093 \u3067\u3059 \u3051\u3069 \u305d\u306e \u77e5\u8b58 \u3092 \u6d3b\u7528 \u3059\u308b \u80fd\u529b \u304c \u306a\u3044 \u304b\u3089 \u3067\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the reason\uff1a Japanese people have the information in their mind, but they don&#8217;t have the ability to use that information.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u3053\u308c \u304c \u65e5\u672c \u306e \u5f93\u6765 \u306e \u82f1\u8a9e \u6559\u80b2 \u306e \u554f\u984c \u3067\u3059 \u306d\u3002 \u82f1\u8a9e \u3092 \u77e5\u8b58 \u3068\u3057\u3066 \u6559\u3048 \u3066 \u3044\u308b \u3093 \u3067\u3059 \u3051\u3069 \u305d\u306e \u77e5\u8b58 \u3092 \u6d3b\u7528 \u3059\u308b \u65b9\u6cd5 \u306f \u6559\u3048 \u3066 \u304f\u308c \u306a\u3044 \u3067\u3059\u3002 \u60c5\u5831 \u304c \u8db3\u308a \u306a\u3044 \u308f\u3051 \u3067 \u306f \u3042\u308a \u307e\u305b \u3093\u3002 \u82f1\u8a9e \u3092 \u3082\u3063\u3068 \u52c9\u5f37 \u3059\u308b \u5fc5\u8981 \u304c \u3042\u308a \u307e\u305b \u3093\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And this is the thing in traditional English education in Japan. They teach you information but they don&#8217;t teach you how to use that information. It&#8217;s not because you don&#8217;t know enough. You don&#8217;t need to study more first.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u3082\u3057 \u50d5 \u306e \u4eca \u306e \u82f1\u8a9e \u306e \u90e8\u5206 \u3092 \u3042\u308b\u7a0b\u5ea6 \u7406\u89e3 \u3057 \u3066 \u3044\u308b \u5834\u5408 \u306f \u3042\u306a\u305f \u306e \u82f1\u8a9e \u306e \u77e5\u8b58 \u306f \u5b9f\u969b \u306b \u8a71\u3059 \u306b \u306f \u3082\u3046 \u5341\u5206 \u306a \u3093 \u3067\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you can understand at least a little bit the English parts that I&#8217;m talking about, you know enough English already to talk with people.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u554f\u984c \u306f \u77e5\u8b58 \u304c \u4e0d\u8db3 \u3057 \u3066 \u3044\u308b \u5f7c \u3058\u3083 \u306a\u304f \u3066 \u305d\u306e \u77e5\u8b58 \u3092 \u6d3b\u7528 \u3067\u304d\u308b \u3088\u3046 \u306b \u306a\u308b \u5fc5\u8981 \u304c \u3042\u308a \u307e\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The problem is not information. We have enough information. We need to learn how to use it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u3067\u306f \u3069\u3046 \u3084\u3063 \u3066 \u305d\u306e \u60c5\u5831 \u3092 \u6d3b\u7528 \u3067\u304d\u308b \u3088\u3046 \u306b \u306a\u308b \u306e \u3067\u3057\u3087 \u3046 \u304b\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How can you learn to actually use that information?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u30ab\u30ae\u304c \u81ea\u8ee2\u8eca \u306b \u3042\u308a \u307e\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The key is in riding a bike.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u5b9f\u306f \u82f1\u8a9e \u3092 \u5b9f\u969b \u306b \u8a71\u305b\u308b \u3088\u3046 \u306b \u306a\u308b \u65b9\u6cd5 \u306f \u81ea\u8ee2\u8eca \u306b \u5b9f\u969b \u306b \u4e57\u308c\u308b \u3088\u3046 \u306b \u306a\u308b \u65b9\u6cd5 \u3068 \u307b\u3068\u3093\u3069 \u540c\u3058 \u3067\u3059\u3002&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The key to learning how to actually speak English is the same way to learn how to actually ride a bike.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u3042\u306a\u305f \u306f \u304d\u3063\u3068 \u81ea\u8ee2\u8eca \u306b \u4e57\u308c\u308b \u3068 \u601d\u3046 \u306e \u3067\u3059 \u3051\u3069 \u5177\u4f53 \u7684 \u306b \u3069\u3046 \u3084\u3063 \u3066 \u81ea\u8ee2\u8eca \u306b \u4e57\u308c\u308b \u3088\u3046 \u306b \u306a\u3063 \u305f \u306e \u3067\u3057\u3087 \u3046 \u304b\u3002 \u81ea\u8ee2\u8eca \u306e \u6559\u79d1\u66f8 \u3092 \u305f\u304f\u3055\u3093 \u8aad\u307f \u307e\u3057 \u305f \u304b\u3002 \u81ea\u8ee2\u8eca \u306e \u52d5\u753b \u30ec\u30c3\u30b9\u30f3 \u3092 \u305f\u304f\u3055\u3093 \u898b \u307e\u3057 \u305f \u304b\u3002 \u81ea\u8ee2\u8eca \u306e \u30d7\u30ed \u306b \u305f\u304f\u3055\u3093 \u76f8\u8ac7 \u3057 \u307e\u3057 \u305f \u304b\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So I think you know how to ride a bike but how did you actually learn how to ride a bike. Did you read a lot of books about bikes. Did you watch videos about bikes. Did you talk to a pro bike rider.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u9055\u3044 \u307e\u3059 \u3088 \u306d\u3002 \u5b9f\u969b \u306b \u4e57\u3063 \u3066 \u307f\u308b \u3057\u304b \u3042\u308a \u307e\u305b \u3093\u3002 \u3042\u306a\u305f \u304c \u81ea\u8ee2\u8eca \u306b \u4e57\u308c\u308b \u3088\u3046 \u306b \u306a\u3063 \u305f \u304d\u3063\u304b\u3051 \u306f \u8db3 \u3067 \u30da\u30c0\u30eb \u3092 \u8e0f\u3093 \u3067 \u30cf\u30f3\u30c9\u30eb \u3092 \u624b \u3067 \u3064\u304b\u3093 \u3067 \u3044\u304d\u306a\u308a \u8df3\u306d \u3066 \u307f \u3066 \u524d \u306b \u9032\u3082 \u3046 \u3068 \u3057 \u305f \u3053\u3068 \u3067\u3059\u3002 \u305d\u3046 \u3057 \u306a\u3044 \u9650\u308a \u81ea\u8ee2\u8eca \u306e \u611f\u899a \u304c \u8eab \u306b \u3064\u304d \u307e\u305b \u3093\u3002 \u81ea\u8ee2\u8eca \u306b \u5b9f\u969b \u306b \u4e57\u308c\u308b \u80fd\u529b \u304c \u8eab \u306b \u3064\u304d \u307e\u305b \u3093\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You didn&#8217;t do that right. You just started to write it. You put your foot on the brake, you put your foot on the pedals, you put your hand on the handles and you jumped and you went forward. If you don&#8217;t do that, you&#8217;ll never get the sense of riding a bike.
