“Are” and “Is”

Confusion between the use of “are” and “is” is something I commonly hear from Japanese students.

Are” is used for plural things such as ideas, people, etc.

But, “is” is used for singular things.

 

Examples:

“They is saying these things.”  –> “They are saying these things.”

“The book he has are interesting.” –> “The book he has is interesting.”
