何年かけても英語力に不満足のDさんという人がいました。
体験レッスンの際いつも通りに、
「Dさんは、どの英語力を伸ばしたいですか？」
と僕は聞きました。
すると、「えー、わからない。全部を伸ばしたいです。」という返事が返ってきました
あなただったら、どんな返事をしますか？もしかしたら、「全部を伸ばしたいのは当然じゃないの？」と思っているかもしれません。
確かにそうですよね。でもDさんはすべての分野を伸ばそうとしたことが一つの原因となって、英語力があまり伸びていなかったのです。
海外に住んで、毎日英語に触れることができる、英語が溢れた生活を送れるとしたら、そのような考えでいいかもしれません。
でも日本に住んでいたらどうでしょう。やはり、英語に触れる機会は限られてしまいますよね。朝起きて、通勤、仕事、帰宅…そんな毎日の中でいつの間にか英語に触れたり、もしくは英語を勉強したりするチャンスがなくなったのではないのでしょうか？
時間があまりないからこそ、英語コミュニケーションを特定な分野に絞らないと上達するのが遅くなってしまいます。
実は、現在アメリカにいる僕でもこんな経験をしています。日本にいた時、日本語が溢れた環境だったので日本語の勉強をある分野に絞らないで済みました。でも今は違います。
故郷のボストンで生活を送っています。僕自身も日本語のある特定の分野に絞らないとまったく上達しないと思っています。

“… you know” is something similarly to 「、、、ね？」もしくは「、、、でしょうね？」
It asks for confirmation from the other people, saying “do you agree?”
“Well, kids these days dont study hard, you know”?”
However, if you being with “you know?” as in “you know? I am really tired today.” You use it to emphasize a specific point as a conclusion.
“I wonder why the economy is going down recently.”
“You know? No one knows the reasons for why the economy changes.”

I need to improve my listening and speaking because I’m going to go to the States this April to study English for 3 months.
